Bill and Beverly Edwards

Bill and Beverly Edwards, Eudora, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 29 in the Regency Room at the Lawrence Holidome. Hosts will be Marilyn and Pat Parker and family.

Bill Edwards and Beverly Broers were married Feb. 18, 1954, in Eudora.

Bill retired from TRW-Camco, an oil well cable company. Beverly retired from Eudora Unified School District No. 491 after 27 years.

The couple have a daughter, Marilyn Parker, Lawrence; three grandsons; and a great-granddaughter.

The couple request no gifts.

Burgess

Dr. Arthur and Janney Burgess

Dr. Arthur and Janney Burgess, Lawrence, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary with a family dinner.

Arthur P. Burgess and Janney V. Swan were married Feb. 9, 1944, at the Trinity Methodist Church in Kansas City, Mo.

They met during a young adult meeting at Trinity Methodist Church.

Arthur received a Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas University and his medical degree from KU Medical Center. He was an intern at Bethany Hospital, Kansas City, in 1952. He did a preceptorship with Dr. I.J. Waxse in Oswego and began a private practice there in 1953. He practiced medicine in Oswego for 32 years, retiring in 1985. The couple moved to Lawrence in 1992.

Janney attended William Jewell College. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in liberal arts from KU. She received a master’s degree in adult education from Pittsburg State University. She earned an associate’s degree in nursing from Labette Community College and a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing at Pittsburg State University. She worked in her husband’s office and at Oswego Hospital. She taught nursing at Labette Community College.

She volunteers for Hospice and Heartland Community Clinic. She serves on the Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen board. Janney and Arthur are volunteers for LINK and members of the Unitarian Fellowship, Old West Lawrence and Lawrence Flower Club.

They have five daughters: Anne Burgess, Robin Burgess and Jean Burgess, Lawrence; Gwen Burgess Sandal, rural Baldwin, and Susan Burgess, Poway, Calif. They have 13 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
