Commission to hear report on snow removal policies

Bottom line

The Lawrence City Commission will hear a report regarding snow removal policies and procedures.

Background

Commissioners have suggested the city should take a more active approach to clearing sidewalks on “key pedestrian routes” in town. The city’s current law requires property owners to clear snow off sidewalks within 24 hours of the storm, but no citations have been issued — thanks to a quirk in the code that generally allows the snow to melt before enforcement begins.
