Lewis E. Barnes

? Graveside services for Lewis E. Barnes, 78, Winchester, will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Leavenworth National Cemetery.

Mr. Barnes died Thursday, Feb. 5, 2004, at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Leavenworth.

He was born May 11, 1925, in Winchester, the son of Earl L. and Meta Fay (Pemberton) Barnes. He lived in Winchester for many years.

Mr. Barnes was a machinist at a steel factory in Bonner Springs. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a member of American Legion Post No. 225 in Ozawkie.

Survivors include two sons, James and Harry, both of Winchester; a daughter, Beverly Wheeler, Lawrence; a stepdaughter, Sylvia, Iowa; three brothers, Francis, Winchester, Cecil, Atchison, and Earl, Topeka; three sisters, Thelma Hubbard and Wilma Brown, both of Winchester, and Juanita Davidson, Leavenworth; and three grandchildren.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and 8 a.m. to noon Tuesday at Barnett Funeral Home in Oskaloosa.
