Carl F. Miller

Services for Carl F. Miller, 94, a retired Lawrence farmer, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Warren-McElwain Mortuary. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Mr. Miller died Friday, Dec. 24, 2004, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He had been an active resident of Pioneer Ridge Retirement Community for more than a year.

He was born March 6, 1910, in Sylvia, the son of John Martin and Anna Josephine Houshinger Miller. He had lived in Lawrence since moving here in 1925.

Mr. Miller graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1925. He attended Kansas University through 1930 when he and his brother, Bob, started a dairy farm and began making deliveries in the Lawrence area.

During his farming career he was elected to the Wakarusa Township Board for 12 years and served on the water district board. In the early 1960s he was involved in starting the Wakarusa Township Fire Department. He also won the Banker’s Award for soil conservation.

Mr. Miller was a member of Lawrence Masonic Lodge No. 6, A.F. & A.M., the Lawrence Scottish Rite Bodies and formerly the High Twelve Club. He also had been a member of the Lawrence Odd Fellows Lodge.

He married Elizabeth Snead on Dec. 20, 1960, in Lawrence. She died April 1, 2003.

Survivors include a stepson, Bill Snead, Lawrence; a stepdaughter, Mary Snead Arredondo, Topeka; four stepgrandchildren and two stepgreat-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.

The family suggests memorial contributions to Lawrence Memorial Hospital Palliative Care Team, sent in care of the mortuary.
