New Year’s Volkswalk: Free State Walkers’ annual New Year’s Day Volkswalk will start between 10 a.m. and noon at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. The 10K walk is non-competitive, and entrants may walk or run at their own pace. For information, call 843-7019.

Basketball Clinic: Free State High’s Holiday Basketball Clinic for youths in kindergarten through seventh grades will be at 9 a.m. Jan. 3 in the FSHS gym. To register, call 842-8666 or pick up a form at Sport 2 Sport or the FSHS office.

LGA Medalists: Rosie Shaumburg and Rachel Rasmussen of Lawrence Gymnastics Academy each earned gold medals in the Level 5 all-around competition at the LGA Winter Cup. Annie Soderberg, Stevie Ray Wunder, Caitlin Haig and Jessie Abernathy each placed second and Allyson Clancy third in their age groups. Individual medals also were earned by Brook Leslie, Lexi Brady, Abigail Schmidtberger and Haley Johnson.

Force U-12 Girls Champs: Kaw Valley Force U-12 girls soccer won the championship of Kansas City’s All-American Indoor League, finishing the season with an 8-1-0 record. Team members are Amanda Moyers, Noah Rector, Marley Sutter, Erin Ice, Amy Meyers, Kathryn Lunte, Kendyll Severa, Madyson Warriner, Mallory Neet, Hillary Yoder, Rachael Hodison, Clare Payne and Natalie Wilkins. Coaches are Riny de Boer and Roland de Boer.

Wrestling Golds: Amanda Morris, Diedre Housworth, Jessica Bowman and Shelby Bowman of Prairie Fire Wrestling Club earned gold medals in the girls division at a meet in Arkansas City. Silver medals went to Brittany Brown, Dottie Housworth, Desiree Housworth and Bailey Cole. In the overall novice division, Trey Jimboy and Corban Schmidt won gold medals. Seconds went to Morris and Cole. Dusty Morris had a fourth place.
