City commissioners will discuss a possible corridor study of Ninth Street between Kentucky and Maine streets.

Background

City Commissioner David Schauner said he was concerned about commercial development along Ninth Street creeping into adjacent neighborhoods. Schauner said he wanted to be proactive in trying to protect neighborhoods from the pressures of downtown expansion.

  • Adopt following ordinance on first reading:

a.) Rezone 14.467 acres from Agriculture to RM-1 (Multiple Family Residence). Property is located south of West Sixth Street between Kansas Highway 10 and George Williams Way.

b.) Rezone 7.012 acres from Agriculture to RO-2 (Residence-Office.) Property is located south of West Sixth Street between Kansas Highway 10 and George Williams Way.

c.) Rezone 12.836 acres from Agriculture to RM-2 (Multiple-family Residential. Property is located south of West Sixth Street between Kansas Highway 10 and George Williams Way.

d. Rezone 32.253 acres from Agriculture to RS-2 (Single-Family Residential.) Property is located south of West Sixth Street between Kansas Highway 10 and George Williams Way.

e.) Establish 2005 water and wastewater rates pursuant to commission direction on Dec. 14.

  • Adopt following ordinances on second and final reading:

a.) Rezone 26.712 acres from Agricultural to RS-2 (Single-Family Residential.) The property is located north of Harvard Road (extended) and east of George Williams Way (extended.)

b.) Ordinance establishing reserved parking for persons with disabilities in front of 1505 Vt.

c.) Ordinance establishing that traffic shall yield on 29th Street at Kensington Drive.

  • Adopt resolution authorizing general obligation bond of $300,000 for tanker/pumper for Fire/Medical Department pending the running of the protest period.
  • Receive letter from Kansas Department of Transportation regarding approval of application of geometric improvement project to add northbound left turn lane at Kansas Highway 10 and Harper Street.
  • Receive letter from Kansas Department of Transportation denying application for economic development project for the extension of Franklin Road from Kansas Highway 10 to the East Hills Business Park.
  • Authorize mayor to execute revised agreement with Grant Township for city fire services from 2005 through 2009.
  • Approve amendment to 2004 consolidated plan for Lawrence Open Shelter to allow for $2,389 for fire sprinkler system.
  • Authorize mayor to sign mortgage release for Dena Hasman, 2633 Rawhide Lane, and subordination agreements for Aaron Blosser, 1226 Conn. and Cynthia Wisdom, 1049 Home Circle.
