Yesslith, Indians dominate Hillsdale Bible

? Cita Yesslith had 14 points, and Samantha Pete added 13, leading the Haskell Indian Nations University women’s basketball squad to a 67-41 victory Saturday over Hillsdale Bible College.

Vangie Platero added 10 points and three assists, and Melinda Adams had seven rebounds for the Fightin’ Indians, who improved to 5-7.

“We came out and shot better than we’ve ever shot,” HINU coach Phil Homeratha said. “Defensively, we did a really good job. We played our best game of the year.”

Indeed, Haskell ripped the nets, especially in the first half. In cruising to a 48-21 halftime lead, the Indians shot 58 percent from the field. Haskell finished with a 43.3 shooting percentage after Homeratha emptied the bench in the second half.

The Indians scored 26 points off Hillsdale turnovers, and the Haskell bench outscored Hillsdale, 23-8.

“We’re real young. We’ve lost so many close games,” he said. “We could easily be 7-5 or 9-3. It was a good win for us going into Christmas break.”

The Indians don’t play again until Jan. 8, when they will play host to Hillsdale.
