Shots finally fall for Mizzou against Montana

? Linas Kleiza has waited and waited, expecting it to happen this season.

Saturday, it did. Kleiza found his shooting touch and scored a career-high 26 points to lead Missouri to an 87-62 victory over Montana.

After missing his first five shots, Kleiza converted nine of 10 shots the rest of the way, including four three-pointers.

“I started off kind of slow, but I just kept my head in it and shots started falling,” he said.

Entering the game as Missouri’s leading scorer at 14.8 points per game, Kleiza had shot better than 40 percent in just two games. His 60 percent mark against Montana is his best of the season.

Jimmy McKinney added 11 points for the Tigers (5-4), while Kalen Grimes had a career-high 12 points in 14 minutes. Kamarr Davis had 12 points and eight rebounds to lead Montana (3-4).

Kleiza’s shooting struggles have mirrored Missouri’s this season. The Tigers shot just 30 percent in a home 62-52 loss to Arkansas on Tuesday before going 33-for-69 against Montana, a 48 percent mark. That accuracy led to Missouri’s highest point total of the season, but Kleiza said the offense was not where it needed to be yet.

Oklahoma 80,

Northern Colorado 44

Norman, Okla. — Taj Gray had 22 points and 11 rebounds, and Jaison Williams scored 14 as Oklahoma rolled. OU (6-1) took control of the game with a 17-2 run to close the first half. Terrell Everett added 13 points. Kevin Bookout had 11 for the Sooners, who play No. 9 Duke on Saturday in New York.

Kirk Archibeque scored a career-high 15 points to lead the Bears, who committed 22 turnovers.

Creighton 50,

Nebraska 48

Lincoln, Neb. — Kellen Miliner hit a 10-foot jump shot with less than a second remaining to give Creighton a win over Nebraska in a game in which neither team led by more than four points.

Creighton (8-1) took its sixth win in seven games over in-state rival Nebraska (3-3).

The game was marred by poor shooting. Nebraska hit just 35 percent of its shots while Creighton hit 34 percent.

Miliner led all scorers with 20 points, Nate Funk added 13 for Creighton. Marcus Neal had 14 to lead Nebraska.

Texas A&M 71,

Alabama A&M 68

College Station, Texas — Freshman Dominique Kirk scored 18 points, including two late free throws to seal the win for Texas A&M. The Aggies (6-0) are off to their best start in 24 years.

Alabama A&M (3-4) pulled to within 69-68 on Obie Trotter’s three-pointer with 10 seconds left. Kirk then hit two free throws with 8.2 seconds left to put the game away.

Acie Law added 13 points for the Aggies. Trotter led Alabama A&M with 18 points and five assists, and Marcus Jones added 12 points.

Kansas State 64, Wyoming 61

Casper, Wyo. — Fred Peete stole an inbound pass, then scored eight points in the last 41 seconds, including a spinning layup with one second left to lift Kansas State to a come-from-behind victory.

The Wildcats (6-0) were down 58-53 with 1:14 left when Peete stole an inbound pass and called time-out while falling out of bounds. Lance Harris hit a three-pointer on the ensuing possession to pull Kansas State within 58-56.

Peete’s three-pointer from the left wing tied the game with 25 seconds left.
