State high court judge recuperating

Kansas Supreme Court Justice Robert Gernon of Lawrence is recovering at home after having a kidney removed, court spokesman Ron Keefover said.

Gernon, 61, was operated on Nov. 24, according to Keefover.

Keefover said he didn’t know when Gernon would return to work, and declined to provide any further details, including why the surgery was done.

“He is at home convalescing,” he said.

The seven-member court is deliberating on several major cases, including consideration of a lower court decision that ruled the Kansas school finance system unconstitutional.
