Weightlifting Gold: Andrea Stoneback Kelly, a Kansas University junior from Lawrence, won the gold medal in the 48 kilo class at the American Open Olympic Weightlifting Championships last week in Shreveport, La. Kelly hoisted 55K in the snatch and 70K in the clean and jerk. Bill Stoneback, a senior at Free State High, placed seventh overall in the 69-kilo class. He totaled 210 kilos — 97.5 in the snatch and 112.5 in the clean and jerk.

Grabill Tops Aquahawks: Reed Grabill of the Lawrence Aquahawks won three gold medals at the Missouri Valley Level 2 swim meet last weekend in Kansas City, Mo. Aquahawks’ double winners were Cameron Case, Austin Green and Reilly Moore. Reese Grabill and Ellen Howat earned one gold apiece.

Gymnasts Shine: Drew Davis and Jacqueline Zaitz of Lawrence Gymnastics Academy placed second in the vault in Level 6 at the Wichita Judges Cup. Zaitz was also second on the beam. Abbey Bays was third in the vault. Mariah Anstandt also participated.

DCABA to Meet: Douglas County Amateur Baseball Assn. will meet at 6 p.m. Sunday in Building One at the Fairgrounds. For a meeting agenda, go to www.dcaba.com. The 2005 league format is on the agenda.

KSA Boys: Kansas Soccer Academy will conduct boys informational meetings for U-14 through U-16 Monday and for U-17 through U-18 Tuesday. Both meetings will be at 7 p.m. at Tuckaway Apartments, 2600 W. 6th St. A meeting for both age groups will be Dec. 20. Players and parents need to attend just one meeting. Soccer Training: Kansas University coach Mark Francis and Free State High coach Jason Pendleton are offering individualized skill training for youths in grades 3 to 12 starting Jan. 8. For information, call Pendleton at 830-0906.
