Sunshine, warmer temperatures expected this week

If you miss blue skies, you won’t have to wait long — this morning’s cloudy skies are expected to break up by the afternoon, bringing sunshine and warmer weather to the Lawrence area.

“By this afternoon, the sunshine does return. And it is just the beginning of the sunshine. It is around for a couple of days,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

This morning’s temperature was 39 at 8:30 a.m., with west to northwest winds at 13 mph, making the windchill 31. But the temperature will rise to a high of 49 by the mid afternoon, Schack said.

Tonight will be mostly clear, with southerly winds 3 to 8 mph. The temperature will fall to a low of 27 by early Wednesday morning, Schack said.

Lawrence continues to stay dry on Wednesday, with the high reaching 54 under some high clouds, she said. Winds will start from the southwest between 5 to 12 mph, shifting to westerly 5 to 10 mph Wednesday night.

Thursday’s morning low will be 34, with the high reaching 57 by Thursday afternoon under partly cloudy skies, she said. Thursday’s winds will be from the west between 10 and 15 mph.
