Grant Metsker, president, called the Nov. 8 meeting of the Lone Star 4-H Club to order. Members answered roll call by telling where they would celebrate Thanksgiving.

Libby Queen, secretary, read the minutes of the previous meeting. Christine Caffey gave the treasurer’s report. John Berg and Callie Fishburn gave the council representatives report. Mary Berg and David Metsker, community leaders, recognized members who received honors during the county’s achievement celebration. They reminded members to complete enrollment cards, join county committees for leadership experience and to read the newsletters. They also asked for volunteers for the county concession stand committee.

The annual Bromelsick Christmas party will be Dec. 4 at Free State High School.

The next meeting will be Dec. 13 at the Lone Star Church. Members are asked to bring cookies for a cookie exchange and donations that will be sent to the troops.

Stull Family Community and Education unit will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the home of Pat Solbach. The lesson will be “Helpful Hints.”

India Family Community and Education unit will meet at 11:15 a.m. Thursday at King Buffet, 1601 W. 23rd St. The club will have a gift exchange and Christmas party following the luncheon at the home of Norma Leary.

Several area 4-H’ers attended National 4-H Congress Nov. 26-30 in Atlanta. They were Michelle Colgan, Leah Hoelscher, Molly Allison-Gallimore, Magdalena May, Becky Baggett, Jennifer McCue and Camille Schmierer. The leadership conference offers skill-building and community service activities, and introductions to career opportunities.

The Four Leaf Clover 4-H Club celebrated the achievements of its members during its Nov. 8 meeting. Paula Aiken, club leader, presented awards to members who completed their record books, were project winners and earned achievement pins.

Reports were given by the treasurer, 4-H council representative and club leader.

Members were encouraged to attend the 53rd annual Bromelsick Christmas Party at the Indoor Aquatic Center from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. today. New officers were installed.

The club donated a decorated tree to the Festival of Trees, and will be giving food donations to a family in need. Members are asked to bring food items to the next meeting on Dec. 13. Members also are asked to bring a $2 gift for a gift exchange.

Several area 4-H’ers recently represented the state of Kansas at the North American International 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl contest Nov. 5-6 in Louisville, Ky. They were Mark Jehle, Baldwin; Travis Spring, Eudora; and Callie Fishburn, Lawrence. Coaches were Carol Keen and Carol Taul, both of Baldwin.
