Margaret Elizabeth Darr

? Services for Margaret Elizabeth Darr, 85, Centralia, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at United Methodist Church, Centralia. Burial will be in Centralia Cemetery.

Mrs. Darr died Friday, Aug. 27, 2004, at Onaga Community Hospital.

She was born Nov. 26, 1918, in Central City, Neb., the daughter of Mary Tenopir.

Mrs. Darr attended Centralia High School and Kansas State College.

Mrs. Darr taught in schools in Nemaha and Marshall counties. She later worked at Jorden’s Grocery and was a substitute teacher at the Centralia grade school. She worked in the Centralia Post Office as a clerk, and from March 31, 1984, until she retired on May 2, 1987, she was the postmaster. She was a federal employee for 32 years.

Mrs. Darr was a member of the United Methodist Church of Centralia, where she served on various boards, taught Sunday school and was a member of the church choir. She also was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Hilda Chapter No. 164; the American Legion Auxiliary; the National Association of Postmasters and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. She was a former member of the Centralia Library board of directors and the Centralia Reading Circle.

She married Francis Keith Darr on Dec. 31, 1941, in Centralia. He survives.

Other survivors include a son, Michael K. Darr, Mesa, Ariz.; a daughter, Lynda Kay Byrne, Eudora; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Two grandchildren died earlier.

The family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. today at Hayes-Popkess Funeral Home in Centralia.
