Around and about

Lydia Caron, daughter of Michael Caron and Anne Marvin; Alyssa Thiel, daughter of David and Sarah Thiel; and Anthony Frei, son of Mark and Brenda Frei, all of Lawrence, recently completed Level 3 of the Future Astronaut Training Program at the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson. The weeklong camp, for which students may apply after successfully completing Levels 1 and 2, included a trip to Houston to tour NASA’s Johnson Space Center.

  • Cyrus Mody has received a doctorate from Cornell University in science and technology studies. He received the American Sociological Assn.’s Hacker-Mullins Prize. For the 2004-2005 year, he has received a Gordon M. Cain Fellowship at the Chemical Heritage Foundation in Philadelphia for post-doctorate work. Mody is a 1993 graduate of Lawrence High School and a 1997 graduate of Harvard University. He is the son of Dr. C.M.S. and Janet Mody, Lawrence.
  • Rebecca Lysen and Marika Spurgeon, both of Lawrence, graduated from Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa, after the spring semester. Lysen received a Bachelor of Fine Arts in graphic design. Spurgeon received a Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication in public relations.
  • Kate Harris, Lawrence, made the dean’s list for the spring semester at Tufts University.
