Warmer conditions expected this week

If you’re tired of cool and damp conditions, you’ll like Lawrence’s weather forecast for this week — sunny skies and warmer temperatures.

“Get used to it. We’re going to see a lot of the sun for the next several days. . . . We’re gradually warming things up,” said Matt Sayers, 6News meteorologist. “By Wednesday, the 80s will be back,”

This morning’s skies were mostly sunny, although temperatures were still in the chilly range, climbing through the 40s by mid morning.

Today’s high will reach 68 by 4 p.m., with breezy northwest winds 10-25 mph, Sayers said.

“We’re going to be watching the winds in the afternoon. They could be up in the double digits,” he said. “If you don’t like the wind, keep that jacket handy.”

Tuesday’s morning low will be 40, climbing to 74 degrees by the afternoon.

Wednesday will continue to bring sunny skies, with the temperature starting in the morning at 55 and climbing to a high of 83 by mid afternoon. Thursday’s morning low will be 57, climbing to 74 by afternoon. The highs for Friday and Saturday will be in the upper 60s.

“For the most part this week, our rain chances are fairly slim,” Sayers said.

The next chance of rain is Thursday night, with a 30 percent chance of rain Thursday night and early Friday morning.

So far this year, the Lawrence area has had 7.42 inches of precipitation, which Sayers said was about .75 of an inch below normal. Last year at this time Lawrence had 6.96 inches.
