Woodrow E. Crawford

? Services for Woodrow E. Crawford, 91, Ottawa, will be at 2 p.m. today at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery in Ottawa with military honors by Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Post 5901 of Ottawa.

Mr. Crawford died Monday, April 19, 2004, at Village Manor Nursing Home in Ottawa.

He was born July 26, 1912, in Ottawa, the son of Jackson Harry and Jennie Elizabeth Hume Crawford. He graduated in 1927 from Sand Creek Elementary School in Franklin County. He lived in Franklin County for all but three years of his life.

Mr. Crawford worked for the Railway Mail Service and then as a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 34 years before he retired on June 30, 1973. He served in the Army National Guard from 1934 to 1945. He was a member of Richter United Methodist Church, VFW Memorial Post 5901 and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

He married Leona Evelyn Rice on Dec. 28, 1940, in Lawrence. She died April 6, 2002.

Survivors include two sons, Allen, Overland Park, and Albert Lee, Mount Vernon, Ill.; a daughter, Mary Ellen Kline, Medicine Lodge; two sisters, Nellie Howell and Cleda Hayden, both of Ottawa; a brother, Herbert, Ottawa; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials to Richter United Methodist Church, sent in care of the mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa 66067.
