Elizabeth J. ‘Betty’ Converse

Mass of Christian Burial for Elizabeth J. “Betty” Converse, 73, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church. Burial will be at St. Peters Cemetery, Big Springs.

Mrs. Converse died Wednesday, April 21, 2004, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She was born Feb. 3, 1931, in Lecompton, the daughter of George B. Earnshaw and Florence B. Andes. Her stepfather, John P. Andes, helped raise her. She grew up in Lecompton and attended schools there. She graduated in 1948 from William Chrisman High School in Independence, Mo. She lived in Lawrence for 36 years.

Mrs. Converse worked at Hallmark Cards for 26 years until she retired. She was a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church in Lawrence.

She married Robert C. Converse on Aug. 23, 1974, in Lone Star. He survives of the home.

Other survivors include three daughters, Karen S. Potter, Overland Park, Connie S. Silvers, Perry, and Kathy D. Boyd, Baldwin; two brothers, George W. Earnshaw, Lee’s Summit, Mo., and Robert L. Andes, Kansas City, Mo.; three sisters, Patty L. Sturdivant, Wichita, Donna L. Gowing, Lecompton, and Linda K. Walburn, Smith Valley, Nev.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where a prayer service will be at 6 p.m. Friday. Family will receive friends after the prayer service until 8 p.m.
