Christopher B. Wasser

? Services for Lance Cpl. Christopher B. Wasser, 21, Ottawa, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Ottawa University Chapel. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery in Ottawa.

Mr. Wasser died Thursday, April 8, 2004, in Husaybah, Al-Anbar province in Iraq, where he was serving in the military.

He was born Jan. 14, 1983, in Overland Park, the son of Scott A. and Candy Hoch Wasser. He moved from Overland Park to Ottawa in 1989 and graduated from Ottawa High School in 2001.

Mr. Wasser served with the U.S. Marine Corps. He was stationed at Twentynine Palms, Calif., and deployed to Kuwait in January 2003. He was one of the first waves of troops to enter Iraq in March. He spent most of his time in Kabala as an infantryman with the Third Battalion Regimental Combat Team 7. He was stationed in the United States in September 2003 and returned to Iraq in February 2004. He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, Cub Scout Troop 3079 and Boy Scout Troop 77, all of Ottawa. He had participated in Ottawa High School marching, concert and jazz bands.

Survivors include his parents, of the home; a brother, Nicholas W., of the home; two sisters, Katie B. Wasser and Emily R. Wasser, both of the home; maternal grandparents, Philip E. and Roslyn G. Hoch, Wichita; and his girlfriend, Stacy Dryden, Ottawa.

Friends may call after 9 a.m. Friday at Dengel & Son Mortuary in Ottawa, where family will receive them from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday.

The family suggests memorials to the Lance Cpl. Wasser Memorial Fund, sent in care of the mortuary, 235 S. Hickory, Ottawa 66067.
