Huckabay ace: Jack Huckabay used a 9-wood to ace the 132-yard No. 11 hole April 1 at Alvamar Country Club. Jerry Levy, Mark Connolly, Mike McNichol and Christian O’Hara were witnesses.

  • Clark Masters Winner: Doug Clark of Lawrence won the men’s 45-49 division and was the overall Masters winner Sunday at the Riegelman Run in Parkville, Mo. Paul Heitzman of Eudora won the men’s ages 70-74 division. Lawrence’s Philip Dizerega and Katie Greene were runners-up in their age groups, and April Patterson was fourth.

  • Firebirds Football: A player and parents meeting for youths interested in playing football at Free State High will be at 7 p.m. April 21 at the FSHS auditorium. Free State’s summer football camps for ninth through 12th graders will be June 1-4. For information, call Bob Lisher at 832-6050.

  • Boeck, Wilson Win: Lawrence’s Dee Boeck and Dick Wilson captured age-group titles in the Run For Life 10-mile race Saturday in Topeka. Boeck won the female senior masters in 1:21:01, and Wilson the men’s ages 70-74 category in 1:13:25. Wally Brawner of Tonganoxie was second in men’s 60-64, and Lawrence Shannon Hodges third in women’s 20-24.

  • Rebels Take Tourney: Kansas Rebels U-11 baseball won the Legacy Pre-Season Opener, a USSSA state qualifier, last weekend in Lee’s Summit, Mo. Team members are Dylan Perry, Cody Oller, Tyler Dick, Mack Hartwell, Ross Johnson, Clay Hamilton, Jake Johnson, Colin Toalson, Jonathan Pederson, Aaron Rosenstengle, Josh Hoffman and Troy Willoughby. Rick Rosenstengle and Todd Hoffman are the coaches.

  • JGC Champs: Kent Beisner, Randy Conroy, Ted Johnson and Keith Wallace teamed to shoot a 341 and win the season’s first Jayhawk Golf Club tournament, a four-man blind draw, Saturday at Alvamar. Runners-up were Larry Bennett, Ben Overman, Van Reichert and Jim Swift. In net scoring, the team of Pat Anderson, Mike Grosdider, Pat McCraney and Pete Whitenight edged Jeff Miller, Stephen Morgan, Scott Reichert and David St. Clair by two strokes.
  • Ellenbecker Signs: Former Free State High and Baker University catcher Bix Ellenbecker has signed a contract with the Amarillo (Texas) Dillas, an independent league pro baseball team.
  • Eudora Golf: Eudora Riverview Golf Course pro Gary Winters will conduct beginning classes for youths and adults starting Sunday. Several leagues are planned this summer. For information, call 542-3800.
