Loretta Lynn Porter

Services for Loretta Lynn Porter, 45, Lawrence, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Baldwin.

Mrs. Porter died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2003, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

She was born Nov. 16, 1957, in Lawrence, the daughter of Montie Duane and Alice Ann Randel. She graduated from Baldwin High School in 1975. She moved to Lawrence after graduation and attended Kansas University for two years.

Mrs. Porter worked for KU for 20 years, first in the psychology department then in the word processing for the college of liberal arts and sciences. She was a member of Church of Christ. She also was involved in Girl Scouts, Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen and the Festival of Trees.

She married Loren “Pete” Porter on June 21, 1978.

Survivors include her parents, Baldwin; three daughters, Miranda Lynn Porter, Jennifer Anne Porter and Catherene “Katie” Elizabeth Porter, all of the home; three brothers, Earl Randel, Austin, Texas, Dany Randel, Baldwin, and Johnny Randel, Berkeley Heights, N.J.; a sister, Gwen Ritter, Washington D.C.; and a grandson.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, where family will receive friends from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday.

The family suggests memorials to the children’s educational fund, sent in care of the funeral home.
