Reservist hit by car dies while on leave from Iraq

? A U.S. Army reservist who returned to the Kansas City area from Iraq for her brother’s wedding was killed when she was hit by a car.

Lisa M. Andrews, 24, of Lenexa, died about 4 a.m. Friday when she was hit by a car as she walked in the southbound lanes of U.S. 69.

“The driver didn’t see her until she was in her windshield,” said Sgt. Todd Chappell of Overland Park’s Traffic Division.

Police said Andrews had been at a bar with family and friends. There was confusion about who was to take Andrews home, police said, and she was left behind.

A stranger tried to take Andrews home but got lost and Andrews got out of the car, police said. She eventually walked onto the multilane, divided highway.

Chappell said the driver would not be cited in Andrews’ death.

Andrews held the rank of specialist as a truck driver for the 129th Transportation Company, based at New Century in the Olathe area. The unit was mobilized for duty in Iraq on Jan. 24.
