County home sales reach another record

Home sales in Douglas County continued at a record-setting pace in August, numbers from the Douglas County Appraiser’s Office show.

The county recorded 229 home sales during the month, the highest August total on record. The previous August high was in 2001 when 211 homes were sold.

The totals were up 34 percent from August 2002 sales but down from July, when 330 homes were sold. The July totals also were a monthly record.

Here’s a look at the number of homes sold and average sale prices for different areas of the county:

  • Lawrence — 183 sales, up from 143 in August 2002. The average sale price was $167,673, down from $168,882 in August 2002.
  • North Lawrence — Nine sales, up from six in August 2002. The average sale price was $100,294, up from $99,667 a year ago.
  • Baldwin — Seven sales, up from four in August 2002. The average sale price was $147,064, up from $106,125 in August 2002.
  • Eudora — 14 sales, up from eight in August 2002. The average sale price was $132,686, up from $132,950 a year ago.
  • Lecompton — One sale, up from none in August 2002. The sale price was $130,500.
  • Rural — 15 sales, up from 10 in August 2002. The average sale price was $250,373, up from $219,130 in August 2002.
