Kenneth LeRoy Schutz

? Services for Kenneth LeRoy Schutz, 77, Vinland, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Vinland United Methodist Church. Burial with military honors by Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14 of the American Legion will be in Vinland Cemetery.

Mr. Schutz died Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at his home.

He was born Nov. 25, 1925, in Eudora, the son of Arthur G. Schutz and Goldie Mitchell. He was raised in Lawrence. He attended No. 6 Grade School and graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1944.

Mr. Schutz served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946, training at Fort Riley and serving in the Philippines and Japan. He worked at Sunflower Army Ammunition Plant from 1951 to 1953 and from 1967 to 1969. He worked for KPL from 1975 to 1989 and owned and operated Kenneth Schutz Well Drilling from 1954 to present. He moved in 1954 to a farm in Vinland and had been a farmer and cattleman since then.

He was a member of Vinland United Methodist Church, a lifetime member of the National and Kansas Rifle Assns. and Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14 of the American Legion.

He married Margie Terrell on Aug. 14, 1947, in Kansas City, Kan. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include two daughters, Glenda Rockers, Baldwin, and Paula Carlson-Fulkerson, St. Marys; a brother, Raymond Schutz, Baldwin; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The family suggests memorials to Vinland United Methodist Church or Vinland Cemetery Assn., sent in care of the funeral home.
