Menzies services

Services for Louise Menzies, 80, Lawrence, will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Southside Church of Christ. Burial will be at Oak Hill Cemetery.

Mrs. Menzies died Friday, Sept. 12, 2003, at her home.

She was born Feb. 28, 1923, in Iola, the daughter of Ernest Leo and Jewel Mildred (Brizzle) Stumbo. She attended school in Moran and graduated from Moran High School in 1944. She attended Iola Junior College for two years and graduated from Kansas University in 1960.

Mrs. Menzies taught at Pleasant Grove School, Concordia Elementary School, Greenwood Valley Elementary School, and for 25 years at Schwegler School in Lawrence, teaching third and fourth grades. She retired in 1985.

She was a member of Southside Church of Christ, where she taught Bible classes. She volunteered with Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen and worked on the Douglas County Election Board.

She married John L. Menzies on June 10, 1945. He died April 8, 1994.

Survivors include two sons, Tom Menzies, Raymore, Mo., and Dan Menzies, Loveland, Colo.; a daughter, RoseMary McCall, Lamesa, Texas; two brothers, Fred Stumbo, Lawrence, and Floyd Stumbo, Lubbock, Texas; three sisters, Helen Colglazier, Searcy, Ark., Dorothy Bergmark, Aurora, Neb., and Lillian Sullivan, Minot, N.D.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home, where the family will receive them from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
