Injury accidents

  • Swerving to spare an animal’s life Wednesday morning landed Patricia A. Hamel in the hospital. The 51-year-old Tonganoxie woman was driving an all-terrain vehicle south on 182nd Street half a mile north of Metro Avenue about 10:30 a.m. and crashed after turning to avoid an animal in the road, according to a Leavenworth County Sheriff Department report. Hamel was transported to Providence Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan. The report noted Hamel was not wearing a helmet at the time of the incident. The department is investigating.
