Huskers tap backup QB

? Freshman Joe Dailey has been named Nebraska’s backup quarterback for Saturday’s game against Utah State.

Coach Frank Solich made the announcement following Thursday’s practice.

Dailey has demonstrated to the coaches that he deserves an opportunity to play, Solich said.

“We felt that he needs to get some reps,” Solich said.

Solich said he also was impressed with the effort of junior Mike Stuntz during the week, and the battle for the backup quarterback spot will continue during the fall.

The team completed preparations for Utah State, practicing for an hour and 45 minutes Thursday at Memorial Stadium.
