There’s good news and bad news if you’re heading out to watch tonight’s Lawrence High-Free State football showdown.

Rain showers will most likely stay to the north and east, 6News meteorologist Ross Janssen said, but temperatures will turn cooler tonight and tomorrow.

“The better chances for rain will stay north of here into parts of Missouri and Iowa. We can’t rule out seeing a 20 percent chance for a sprinkle. Any rain we get during game-time will be light,” Janssen said.

There is still a 20 percent chance for some sprinkles passing over the Lawrence area by the 7 p.m. kickoff at Kansas University’s Memorial Stadium. By kickoff, the temperature will be around 57, dropping to 51 by the end of the game.

“And it’s going to be breezy out of the north, 10 to 20 mph,” said 6News meteorologist Matt Jacobs.

The chance for rain ends at 2 a.m. Saturday as the front passes through, he said.

Saturday’s morning low will be 35 under partly cloudy skies, with north winds 10 to 20 mph.

If you’re headed to Manhattan for Saturday’s KU-Kansas State University football game, prepare for a cool and windy day.

By the 1 p.m. kickoff, the temperature there will reach the high of 57, with winds out of the north, about 15-25 mph.

Saturday’s weather in Lawrence will be windy and cool, with the temperature reaching 56 under partly cloudy skies.

“Saturday night, it looks like it will be our first freeze, dropping down to 30 degrees (by early Sunday morning),” Jacobs said.

The temperature will warm up to 53 on Sunday, under mostly clear skies.

The next possibility for wet weather is Monday evening, when the forecast calls for a 30 percent chance of showers, he said.
