Former candidate says he won’t run in 2004

Physician Jeff Colyer says he won’t run in the Republican Party primary for Congress in 2004.

Colyer, a Johnson County plastic surgeon, was defeated in the 2002 GOP primary for the 3rd District seat held by Dennis Moore, D-Kan.

“Right now,” Colyer said, “a congressional race would interfere with my highest priority — (my wife) Ruth and my young daughters.”

Colyer said serving in Congress would be a privilege, but “this is not the right time.”

In 2002, Colyer lost to Republican rival Adam Taff in the primary. Moore defeated Taff in the general election.

Colyer said he was concerned the economy, terrorism, education, federal budget, senior citizens and health care.
