KU men’s golfers tied for fourth place

Somis, Calif. — Kansas University’s men’s golf team is tied for fourth place after two rounds of the 12-team Pepperdine Intercollegiate Tournament.

The Jayhawks, who, like Tulsa, carded a 36-hole score of 598 Monday at Saticoy Country Club, trail Pepperdine (571), Arizona State (589) and Colorado State (592).

KU junior Kevin Ward shot rounds of 74 and 71, good for a fourth-place total of 144. Michael Putnam of Pepperdine leads at 140. Freshman Tyler Docking tied for 16th at 149. Junior Andrew Price is tied for 26th at 151.

The tournament will conclude with 18 holes today.

Jayhawk women 16th after second round

Franklin, Ind. — Kansas University’s women’s golf team fired a two-round score of 626 Monday, good for a tie for 16th place at the Shootout at the Legends Tournament.

Kent State leads the 18-team tourney with 578 strokes.

KU’s Jill Womble fired rounds of 73 and 75 and is tied for 21st at 148.

SDSU hires KU alumnus as athletic director

San Diego — San Diego State University has named Mike Bohn athletic director, SDSU President Stephen Weber announced Monday.

Bohn, a 42-year-old Kansas University graduate who worked as AD at Idaho the past five years, will receive a five-year contract and officially begin his tenure with SDSU Oct. 17. He is a former KU football/baseball player and graduated in 1982.

Big 12 honors Correa

Kansas University freshman Janaina Correa was named Big 12 Conference Volleyball Player of the Week Monday. She averaged 4.22 kills and 2.67 digs per game with a .305 hitting average against Missouri and Texas Tech.
