Offices close for Thanksgiving holiday

Government offices and most public services in Lawrence will be closed today and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday.

City, county and state offices also will be closed in all area towns.

In Lawrence, there will be no trash collection today, but there will be pick-ups Friday and Saturday.

Lawrence city buses, known as the T, will not run today. They will resume regular routes Friday. The Lawrence Bus Co. will be closed today and Friday.

Douglas County Senior Services, including the Senior Meals Program, will not be in operation today or Friday. Lawrence Meals on Wheels will not run today but will resume Friday.

Kansas University will not conduct classes today or Friday, and all offices and libraries will be closed.

The Lawrence Public Library is closed today but will reopen Friday.

Banks are closed today but will reopen Friday. There will be no mail delivery today except for Express Mail. Deliveries resume Friday. There will be no UPS pick-ups or deliveries today.

The Journal-World will be published as usual. The circulation office is open today from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. USA Today doesn’t publish today.

Liquor stores are required by law to be closed on Thanksgiving.

All Lawrence recreation centers will be closed today. On Friday, East Lawrence and Holcom recreational centers and the Community Building will reopen from noon to 6 p.m.

Prairie Park Nature Center, 2730 Harper, is closed today but will be open Friday. The Indoor Aquatic Center, 4706 Overland Drive, is closed today but will be open Friday.
