David John Mater

Mr. Mater died Friday, Nov. 21, 2003, at his home. He had amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig’s disease.

He was born July 13, 1952, in Hoisington, the son of Fred J. and Rita E. (Fuerst) Mater. Mr. Mater grew up in Olmitz and graduated from Hoisington High School in 1970. He attended Barton County Community College. He received a business degree in 1997 from Kansas University.

He was an information systems analyst with Payless ShoeSource in Topeka. He also had worked for King Radio as a design draftsman for 13 years.

He married Kim A. Schulz on June 14, 1980, in San Diego, Calif. She survives, of the home.

Other survivors include a son, Ian K., of the home; a daughter, Madison R. Mater, of the home; his mother, Great Bend; three brothers, Gary and Daniel, both of Olmitz, and Kenneth J., Great Bend.

An infant son, Ely John, died earlier.

Friends may call from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday at the funeral home, where the family will receive them from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Monday.

The family requests memorials go to ALSA-Keith Worthington Chapter or Hospice Care in Douglas County, sent in care of the funeral home.
