Shanahan: Sharpe not done just yet

Denver — Broncos tight end Shannon Sharpe says he has made up his mind about retirement. His coach thinks he should wait a little longer before making a decision.

Sharpe is still one of the best tight ends in the league but said Sunday he’d rather retire a year too early than a year too late.

Broncos coach Mike Shanahan said Monday it was a mistake to even talk about retirement now.

“To make those decisions now or really shortly after the season, sometimes is a little quicker than it should be,” Shanahan said.

Sharpe is second on the team with 41 catches for 496 yards, and he’s first with seven touchdown receptions.

Rams’ DE Little still not healthy

St. Louis — Rams defensive end Leonard Little thought Sunday’s game at Chicago was his last on the sideline.

Instead, Little likely will miss his fourth straight game this week at Arizona because of a torn chest muscle. The Rams (7-3) are being very careful with their best pass rusher, who has seven sacks, because coach Mike Martz said if he reinjured the chest he would miss the rest of the season.

Ramsey has played

despite broken foot

Ashburn, Va. — Washington Redskins quarterback Patrick Ramsey has been playing all season despite a broken bone in his right foot, an old fracture that is hampering his mobility.

“It’s flared up pretty bad recently,” said Ramsey, who has had difficulty planting the foot when throwing.

Coach Steve Spurrier revealed the injury Monday, a day after Ramsey had one of his worst games of the season in a 20-17 loss at Carolina.

Ramsey was 16-for-35 for 150 yards and missed two wide-open receivers for sure touchdowns against the Panthers. His 53.5 completion percentage ranks 31st in the league.

Vikings’ Williams arrested on DWI

Edina, Minn. — Minnesota Vikings rookie defensive tackle Kevin Williams was arrested on a drunken driving charge, police said Monday.

The Vikings’ first-round choice in the 2003 draft was arrested by Edina Police around midnight Thursday.

Police said he registered 0.14 percent on a blood-alcohol test. Minnesota’s legal limit is 0.10 percent.

Williams, drafted ninth overall out of Oklahoma State, is second on the team with 51/2 sacks.
