House services

Services for Helen Ruth House, 78, Topeka, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery.

Ms. House died Saturday, Nov. 15, 2003, at Midland Hospice House in Topeka.

She was born Sept. 22, 1925, in Lawrence, the daughter of Thomas E. and Olive (Phillips) House. She grew up in Lawrence, where she attended public schools and graduated from Liberty Memorial High School in 1943. She had lived in Topeka since 1965.

Ms. House worked for Hercules Powder Plant in De Soto during World War II. She also worked in Topeka for the state of Kansas, for National Alfalfa Dehydrating & Milling Co. in Lawrence, and for the departments of the Air Force and the Army for 29 years. She retired from the Army National Guard in 1985.

She was baptized at Centenary United Methodist Church, where she was a member. She was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi in Topeka.

Survivors include a brother, Stanley T. House, Eudora, and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, where family will receive them from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday.

The family suggests memorials to Midland Hospice House in Topeka, the church or the charity of the donor’s choice, sent in care of the funeral home.
