Presidential debates to bypass Lawrence
Lawrence wasn’t one of the four sites announced as 2004 presidential debate sites Thursday morning.
Lawrence and Kansas University were one of 14 finalists for three presidential and one vice presidential debates. A group tied to the Lawrence Sesquicentennial Commission had made the formal application.
Winning sites announced by the Commission on Presidential Debates were:
- University of Miami, Coral Gables, Fla., presidential debate, Sept. 30.
- Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio, vice presidential debate, Oct. 5.
- Washington University, St. Louis, presidential debate, Oct. 8.
- Arizona State University, Tempe, Ariz., presidential debate, Oct. 13.
