Curly Top, Ghost win in carving contest
A curly headed, round-faced spook and a gaggle of ghosts were picked winners in The World Company’s second-annual Great Pumpkin Carving Contest.
The judges picked the winning creations in two categories from a crop of 11 jack-o’-lanterns entered Friday.
The winners — Lana Grove for “Curley Top” in the original creation category and Kristin Scott for “Ghost” in the kit category — each received a party for 20 people at Googols of Fun, 4931 W. Sixth St.
Other entrants ranged from the traditional happy jack-o’-lantern to a gourd bat complete with wings and legs.
Judges were 6News Director Cody Howard, Journal-World Managing Editor Richard Brack, “Home & Away” host Cathy Hamilton, Journal-World photographer Richard Gwin and 6News photographer John Weldon.
