The Meadowlark 4-H Club met May 13 at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds. Members made tray favors for the Meals on Wheels program. A pizza party was given to honor the club’s graduating seniors: Michael Hicks, Samie Milligan and Liz Pendleton.

Samie Milligan presided over the meeting. Members answered roll call by announcing their plans for the summer. Amelia Magerl and Will Pendleton led the song “Thumbs Up.” Members discussed ideas for a banner at the Douglas County Free Fair. Guests were Emily Mersmann, Al Pendleton and Lorita Pendleton. A game of “Senior Jeopardy” was played to recognize the high school seniors.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m. June 10 at the Pendletons’ home. Members enrolled in the plant science project will give the program. The Vestal and Peck families will be hosts.

  • The monthly meeting of the Lone Star 4-H Club began with a special presentation by Nan Dettrick about the Dalmatian Specialty Show. Members answered roll call by saying when their birthdays are.

Members were reminded that the pre-registration deadline for the Douglas County Free Fair is June 30. Members discussed a trip to Worlds of Fun.

Members volunteered to help at today’s Bromelsick Memorial. It was announced that a shift leader for the fair concession stands is needed for Aug. 1. The club decided to provide a petting zoo for a local church’s Vacation Bible School.

The club’s graduating seniors were recognized. They are Casey Baker, Jessica Fishburn, Mark Flory, Heather Hinshaw, Kim Lynch, Danielle Skinner and Daniel Squires.

Olivia Dilling and Haley Parker led the club in playing a “Penny Push” game. Kasey Waite talked about the recent tornado in Lawrence. Members who are enrolled in the pet project gave a presentation.

The next meeting will be June 9 at the Queens’ house. Donations of new school supplies will be collected for ECKAN.

  • The May 12 meeting of the Four Leaf Clover 4-H Club was called to order by Jim Ashcraft, president. Members discussed next year’s Achievement Celebration and decided to have a dessert bar instead of a meal.

It was announced that booklets for the Douglas County Free Fair are available at the Extension Office. The club will work one night in the fair concession stand. Each member will work a two-hour shift.

The club’s community service project will be helping at Relay for Life. Members who are enrolled in the arts and crafts projects will personalize luminaries. Members who are enrolled in the foods project will make snacks for the walkers.

Kelly Flanders, Lindsey Rich, Colter Scott, Weston Allen, and his mother, Jane Getto, will attend today’s Bromelsick Memorial.

Erin Ashcraft gave the project talk “Slam Dunk Flower Arrangements.” Weston Allen gave a project talk on archery.

The next meeting will be June 9.
