The week: After play was suspended Monday night for the Class 6A regional golf tournament, Fulbright’s 73 had him atop the leaderboard. But six golfers still had to finish, forcing him to wait 20 hours for the finish. It was worth it: Only one of the second-day scores was within two strokes of Fulbright, the regional champ. The Lions also won the team title, heading to their second straight state tournament.

Comment: “I think what’s really helped Thomas is he understands how to compete,” LHS coach Ron Commons said. “As a sophomore, we cut him, which I think you look at it now and it helped him focus and made him commit to golf. He’s come a long way in his high school career.”
