Emerson John Ott
Services for Emerson John Ott, 85, Lawrence, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Rumsey-Yost Funeral Home. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
Mr. Ott died Thursday, May 15, 2003, at Lawrence Memorial Hospital.
He was born Nov. 16, 1917, in Douglas County, the son of John George Jr. and Zilla (Schuman) Ott. He grew up in Eudora and graduated from Eudora High School, where he played football and basketball.
Mr. Ott served in the U.S. Army with the 103rd Infantry during World War II. He received the ETO ribbon with three Battle Stars and a Bronze Star. He worked for John Deere dealers Green Brothers for 12 years and Deemes Farm Equipment for 30 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Dorsey-Liberty Post No. 14 of the American Legion, Alford-Clarke Post 852 of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Square Dance Clubs of Lawrence.
He married Flora J. Markley on Aug. 31, 1940, in Savannah, Mo. She survives of the home.
Other survivors include a daughter, Debi K. Waggoner, Lawrence; a sister, Catherine Reeves, Fullerton, Calif.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where the family will receive friends from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
The family suggests memorials to Central United Methodist Church, sent in care of the funeral home.
