Winds rake S.W. Kansas

? Strong winds and heavy rains moved through southwest Kansas Thursday evening, damaging some homes and businesses in Liberal and knocking out power.

Preliminary reports included only one injury.

Police said roads in the area, including U.S. Highway 54, were blocked off and impassable because of downed trees and power lines and some low-level flooding.

Some businesses in downtown Liberal sustained substantial wind damage and mobile homes in Cimarron Mobile Home Park also were damaged, said Earl Watt, publisher of the Southwest Daily Times.

There also were unconfirmed reports of tornadoes in Meade and Seward counties.
