High winds, brief heavy downpours, small hail and at least one lightning strike on a tree were reported Sunday in Lawrence.
Marble-size hail was reported after 3 p.m. east of Haskell Avenue. A tree near Oak Hill Cemetery was struck by lightning around the same time, producing a booming burst of thunder that reverberated through downtown.
In Jefferson County, storm sirens were sounded around 3 p.m. Residents of McLouth were advised to take cover as cloud rotation was spotted; no tornado touched down.
