Governor’s Fishing Classic set for June 5-6 at Coffey County Lake

Gov. Kathleen Sebelius will play host to the Governor’s Fishing Classic June 5-6 at Coffey County Lake near Burlington.

On tap are a celebrity golf tournament, barbecue and auction.

On Thursday, June 5, a four-person scramble golf tournament is scheduled at Rock Creek Country Club in Burlington, and at Indian Hills Golf Course in New Strawn.

Following the golf, an auction will be staged at Rock Creek. Auction items include a George Brett autographed bat, an invitation to the Governor’s One Shot Turkey Hunt and two season tickets to the Kansas Speedway.

The fishing tournament registration will begin at 5:30 a.m. Friday, June 6.

The Grand Champion Trophy will be based on catching smallmouth bass. Other prizes will be awarded for largest walleye and wiper and most fish.

An awards luncheon will honor the winners of the June 6 fishing tournament, as well as the youth essay contest winner.
