City Pin Winners: Nancy Payne and Dixie Greeno each shot 666 to share the singles title at last month’s Lawrence Women’s Bowling Assn. tournament. Pam Dunn and Jodi Lybarger combined for a 1,255 to win the doubles title. Brenda Burton won all-events with a 1,931. Watch Us Burn earned the team title with a 2,971. Team members were Jennifer Davids, Ann Neuschafer, Diane Kreider, Maria Burton and Patty Sexton.

  • Cayton Shifts: Lawrence native John Cayton has been named the USA Tennis community coordinator for Illinois for the United States Tennis Assn. Midwest Section. Cayton has been the Missouri coordinator. A former Lawrence High tennis player, Cayton is a graduate of Emporia State.
  • Warren Earns Bronze: Zechariah Warren of Lawrence finished third in the U-6 division of the Kansas Kids Wrestling Tournament last weekend in Ottawa.
  • Gold for Rasmussen: Rachel Rasmussen of the Lawrence Gymnastics Academy earned a gold medal earlier this month at the Emerald City Meet. LGA’s Drue Davis and Abbey Bays collected silver medals and Carlyn Jones and Jacqueline Zaitz bronzes. Also competing were Nora Elbayoumy, Maiko Kitaoak, Rose Schaumburg, Lexi Brady, Mickayla Starkey, Sydney Thielen, Haley Johnson and Jesse Abernathy.
  • West Takes Second: Mallory West of Lawrence Gymnastics Academy finished second in the Level 9 all-around with a season-high score of 36.5 at the State Championships in Wichita. LGA’s Jennifer Hornbaker earned a fifth in the all-around. Both qualified for the Region III meet next month in Norman, Okla. At Level 5, LGA’s Ellen Hernly was fifth in the all-around. At Level 6, LGA’s Kelcy Bowers, Alexis Gonzales, Rachael Schaffer, Camille Fittell and Kacey Clements earned Top 10 finishes.
  • Shoffner Shines: Brandon Goodwin, Jesse Hardy and Brett Shoffner of the Jayhawks Kids Wrestling Club earned gold medals at the district tournament Saturday in Ottawa. K.J. Siebert and Scott Deo earned seconds and Zack Toelkes a fourth.
  • City Bowling Champions: Larry Burton’s squad rolled a 3,277 and won the Lawrence Bowling Assn. tournament team title. Members are Chris Henkel, Rich Edmonds, Mike Medlen, Larry Caldwell and Burton. Other champions were Pete VonKnorring and Gary Snow in doubles (1,387), Bob Martin and Ken Mooney in senior doubles (1,190), Rick Rose and Burton in singles (both rolled 708), Snow in senior singles (703) and Burton in all-events (2,238).
  • LHS Softball Camp: A softball camp conducted by Lawrence High coaches is scheduled from June 2-6. It’s open to youths in grades 3-12. For information, call Reenie Stogsdill at 749-1604.
  • BU Net Clinic: Baker University’s tennis players will conduct a clinic for adults and youths from 2-4 p.m. April 6 at the BU courts in Baldwin.
  • Kaw Valley Soccer: The KVF under-14 girls squad won its first game of the season, 4-0, against Omega SC. Jenny Brooks scored two goals, and Elia Brown-Davis and Madison Bertrand each added a goal. Abby Vestal had three assists, and goalkeeper Megan Hrenchir earned the shutout. The KVF under-16 boys squad tied Ambush, 1-1. Jeremy Smith scored, and Danny Slocum had an assist.
  • Soccer Skills: The Kaw Valley Soccer Assn. has openings for under-6, under-7 and under-8 age soccer players to participate in a training program. Practice is from 5:30-6:30 Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Youth Sports Inc. fields. Program is free, simply show up.
  • KU Soccer Camps: Applications are being accepted for the 2003 Kansas University Spring Soccer Camp. The camp is for boys and girls from K-8th grade and will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. April 8 at Super Target Field. Fee is $25.   • State Gymnastics: Lindsey Fisher and Sindra Schueler qualified for the Regional Championships April 6 in Oklahoma City at the Kansas State Gymnastics Meet. Schueler finished sixth and Fisher seventh in the Level 9 all-around. In Level 5, Leighann Krische was second in all-around and third in uneven bars and floor exercise. In Level 8, Laura Devlin was third in vault and eighth in all-around.
  • Track Club Sign-ups: A parent informational meeting will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Holcom Recreation Center for the Lawrence Track Club. The club is for boys and girls ages 8 to 18.   • Aquahawks Compete: The short-course season ended at the Missouri Valley Div. I Champion swim meet at Wichita. Katie Swank took third in the 50 free, Chloe Portela was second in the 50 back, Jill Courtney was third in the 100 back, and Emma Reaney and Marcy Vickers were first and third in the 200 free. Also competing were Caitlin Gallagher, Anthony Portela, Chris Sellon, Faith Kempf, Chase Torgerson, Ashley Robinson, Mary Klima, Molly Albrecht, Heather Clark, Whitley Jackson, Erin Eifler, Melissa Little, Megan Little and Ashley Jackson.
