Third slaying suspect appears in court

The third suspect in the slaying of 21-year-old Quincy M. Sanders made a formal appearance on Tuesday in Douglas County District Court.

Judge Pro Tem Peggy Kittel read the charge of second-degree murder to Corey Terrell Robinson, 23, Topeka, who appeared by videoconference from the Douglas County Jail.

Prosecutors allege Robinson and another man shot and killed Sanders early March 14 near the front door of a duplex in the 2600 block of Ridge Court. Police arrested Robinson Friday in Topeka after a weeklong manhunt.

Kittel set Robinson’s bond at $500,000 cash or surety.

She also ordered him to have no contact with the two other defendants in the case. They are Tremain V. Scott, 21, Overland Park, who’s charged with second-degree murder; and Randy R. Owens, 27, Topeka, who is charged with aiding Scott and Robinson, obstruction of justice, and attempting to elude a police officer.

Scott is in the Douglas County Jail with a $500,000 bond, and Owens is free on $7,000 bond.

The next court appearance for all three will be April 3.

Shawnee County court records show that in 1999, 2000 and 2001 Robinson was accused of assault against Ryland “Billy” Patton, 33, and firing shots at Patton’s residences.

In each case, charges were dismissed after Patton refused to cooperate with prosecutors.

Earlier this month, Patton was arrested in connection with the Jan. 20 shooting death of Paul Ray III in Topeka.
