Tigers complete Big 12 sweep of Jayhawks

? Missouri completed a three-game sweep of Kansas University’s 19th-ranked baseball team, claiming a 7-4 victory Sunday.

For the third time in the weekend series, the Jayhawks (20-9 overall, 0-3 Big 12 Conference) took an early lead, going ahead 2-0 with three hits in the top of the first inning.

Mizzou tied the game at 2 with three hits in the fourth off KU starter Ryan Knippschild (5-2). MU added another run in the fifth to take a 3-2 lead on an RBI single to left field.

KU pulled even in the seventh on junior outfielder Ryan Baty’s sacrifice fly to score senior shortstop Brandon Shepard, who had reached on an error.

Missouri broke the game open in the bottom of the frame, though, scoring four runs with two outs to take a 7-3 lead and chase Knippschild. He worked 62¼3 innings, allowing seven runs on nine hits with three strikeouts.

Kansas scored once in the eighth for the final score after senior left fielder Casey Spanish led off with a triple and scored on a wild pitch.

The Jayhawks will open a nine-game homestand Tuesday against Baker. First pitch will be 6 p.m. at Hoglund Ballpark.
