NBA Roundup: Sprewell sparks Knicks, 97-93

? There are tough angles and there are very tough angles, and then there’s the angle from which Latrell Sprewell launched the game-clinching shot Friday night.

Sprewell scored 13 of his 22 points in the fourth quarter, including a clinching corner jumper from behind the backboard with 15 seconds remaining as the New York Knicks defeated the Detroit Pistons, 97-93, Friday night.

“I just got a lucky bounce,” Sprewell said. “I was way behind the backboard, but luckily my right hand was on the inside because I was definitely behind the glass.”

Combined with Milwaukee’s loss to New Orleans, the Knicks moved within two games of the eighth and final playoff spot in the East.

Miami — Rookie Caron Butler scored 22 points and Miami snapped a four-game losing streak. Rasual Butler scored 18 points for Miami, and Brian Grant added 12 points and 10 rebounds as the Heat snapped a six-game losing streak at home and scored 100 points for just the eighth time.

Philadelphia — Glenn Robinson matched his season high with 37 points and Shareef Abdur-Rahim scored 10 of his 22 in the final five minutes as Atlanta snapped a three-game losing streak.

Magic 109, Cavaliers 85

Orlando, Fla. — Tracy McGrady scored 39 points in three quarters and Orlando beat Cleveland for the fourth time this season. McGrady scored 30 or more points for the 42nd time this season.

T’wolves 101, Spurs 94, OT

San Antonio — Kevin Garnett had 24 points and 12 rebounds and finished two assists shy of his sixth triple-double of the season as Minnesota beat San Antonio in overtime. Anthony Peeler added 23 points for the Timberwolves.

Phoenix — Stephon Marbury scored 23 points and Joe Johnson added 19 off the bench as the Suns spoiled Michael Jordan’s last game in Phoenix. Shawn Marion had 18 points and Amare Stoudemire had 11 of his 16 in the final quarter.

Oakland, Calif. — Steve Francis had 13 points, 12 assists and 11 rebounds and all five Houston starters scored in double figures.

Los Angeles — Shaquille O’Neal scored 48 points on 19-of-24 shooting and had 20 rebounds to lead Los Angeles.

New Orleans — Baron Davis and Jamal Mashburn each scored 22 points to lead New Orleans past Milwaukee.

Seattle — Ray Allen scored 38 points, including a technical free throw with 2.4 seconds left, and Vladimir Radmanovic had 17 in Seattle’s victory against Denver.

Pacers 101, Grizzlies 92

Indianapolis — Jermaine O’Neal tied his career high with 38 points and grabbed 18 rebounds as Indiana rallied from a 19-point deficit and beat Memphis. Reggie Miller, who started the Pacers’ comeback in the third quarter, added 14 points.
