Powerlift Champ: Brady Tanner of Lawrence won the 242-pound weight division of the Oklahoma AAU Powerlifting Championships on March 1-2 in Tulsa. Tanner had a squat of 410 pounds, a bench press of 270 and a dead lift of 400 pounds.

Five Gold Medals: Reed Grabill, Allie Kossoy and Tony Libeer of the Lawrence Aquahawks won five events apiece at the Division II West swim meet at the Lawrence Aquatic Center. Teammate Adam Winter earned three golds while Kristi Rudman and Whitley Jackson garnered two apiece. Single-event winners were Bailey Carlson, Andrew Locke, Sarah Clark, Rory Ezell, Katie Sloan, Annie Libeer, Amanda Bari and Alyssa Rudman.

Heitzman Wins: Paul Heitzman of Eudora won the ages 70-74 division of the Outback 5K Saturday in Tulsa, Okla., in a time of 21:12. Wally Brawner of Tonganoxie was second in the 60-64 division in a time of 21:06.

WSU Taps Clark: Leonard Clark, a native of Lawrence, has been named assistant athletic director for special projects at Wichita State University. Clark taught at Lawrence High after graduating from WSU in 1965, then earned a law degree from Kansas University in 1973. Clark worked at Southeast Missouri State before becoming a WSU administrator in 1998.

LHS Sophs 15-1: Lawrence High’s sophomore girls basketball team finished the season with a record of 15-1. Flames Champs: Sport 2 Sport Flames sixth graders ended their season with a first-place trophy at the MAYB tournament in Lawrence. Team members are Bailey Scott and Haley Epperson of Eudora, Tracie Weege of Baldwin, Emily Huerter and Ashley Hill of Lecompton, and Taylor Manning, Rosie Hull, Maggie Hull and Taylor Bird of Lawrence. Brown Grabs Bronze: Stephanie Brown of Kansas School of Gymnastics finished third in the Level 4 all-around at the McCracken Invitional in Olathe. Other KSG placers were Samantha Schuler, Courtney Richmond and Lindsey Fisher.

Raintree Entries: Early entries are due April 2 for the Raintree Run, a half marathon and 5K that benefits Raintree Montessori Academy. It’s scheduled for April 13. Last year’s run drew 1,250 participants, making it one of the largest in Kansas.

Riley Nabs League Race: Justin Riley, a Grinnell College freshman from Lawrence, won the 5,000-meter run at the Midwest Conference Indoor track championships last weekend in Galesburg, Ill. Riley was also second in the 3,000. Adam Beals, another LHS freshman at Grinnell, was fifth in the 3,000.

LJWC Results: Caleb D’Armond of the Lawrence Junior Wrestling Club earned a third place at last Saturday’s Mill Valley Invitational. Teammates Braxton Vardys, Jacob Warren, Zechariah Warren and Andy Jones all earned fourths.
