Bonds bombing; Hampton bumming

It seems Mike Hampton’s struggles are far from over. Barry Bonds, however, is already on a tear.

Bonds hit his fifth home run of spring training, and a split squad of San Francisco Giants beat the Milwaukee Brewers, 6-2, Wednesday. The only five-time MVP in baseball history, Bonds is 8-for-20 (.400) this spring with nine RBIs.

“He’s a freak of nature,” Brewers slugger Richie Sexson said.

Hampton gave up a grand slam to former teammate Craig Biggio in the second inning of the Atlanta Braves’ 9-8 victory over the Houston Astros.

The left-hander allowed six runs in the second inning alone.
