Ottawa, P-L girls advance; Eudora falls

? Ten Ottawa High players scored Wednesday night in a 61-31 Class 4A girls basketball sub-state rout of Louisburg.

Liz Burks scored 20 points, while Jenny Heck added 11 and Megan Ramsey had 10 for the Cyclones (13-8).

“We had a big third quarter,” OHS coach Cliff McCullough said of the Cyclones’ 21-point frame. “The first half we were sluggish. It was either nerves or being out of school today. We got our bearings in the third and fourth.”

Ottawa used runs of 24-2 and 16-0 in the rout.

Senior Shannon Wilson added 12 points for P-L (7-14), which will take on Atchison in a sub-state semifinal at 6 p.m. Friday in Holton.

“We need that,” P-L coach Kevin Bost said of three double-digit scorers. “That was what we’ve been waiting for all year, somebody to step up and help out Shannon. In the scouting report, she kind of stands out. Everybody contributed. Even the kids who didn’t score helped out on defense. It was a team win, a big win.”

The victory marked the first postseason win for the Perry-Lecompton seniors.
