Baldwin ? Douglas County commissioners will sink their teeth into several broad issues tonight when they meet with members of the Baldwin City Council and Baldwin school board.

Among the discussion topics on the agenda for tonight’s meeting, set for 6:35 p.m. in the second floor library at Baldwin High School:

• A review of current rules and potential regulations for handling dangerous dogs in the county.
• An update on proposed legislation under consideration in the 2003 Kansas Legislature that would limit the abilities of cities to annex property.
• A discussion of any other issue that could affect any or all of the three groups at the meeting, either now or years into the future.

No votes are scheduled, but officials are looking forward to getting together to talk.

“Most things that are ready for a vote have already been discussed, negotiated and had the details worked out,” said Craig Weinaug, county administrator. “But at some point, ideas have to get generated. The spirit of cooperation has to get started.

“That’s why this County Commission has continually pushed for joint meetings with the other (government) bodies, whether or not there’s a specific issue to be resolved,” Weinaug said.

In recent months, county commissioners have discussed potential restrictions on fireworks sales with members of the Lecompton City Council and mulled development patterns east of Lawrence with members of the Eudora City Council.
