George Joseph Corriston

? Services for George Joseph Corriston, 58, Leavenworth, will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Belden-Sexton-Sumpter Funeral Home in Leavenworth. Burial will be in Veteran Memorial Cemetery, Leavenworth.

Mr. Corriston died Sunday, March 2, 2003, at the U.S. Veterans Medical Center in Leavenworth.

He was born Jan. 29, 1945, in Leavenworth, the son of Richard and Oka Corriston.

Mr. Corriston served in the U.S. Army from July 19, 1965, to July 18, 1967, including almost a year in Vietnam. He received several military honors, including the Vietnam Service Medal with the Bronze Service Star.

He was an upholsterer for 40 years and owned a Leavenworth upholstery shop with his brother, Richard. He later worked at Murphy’s Furniture in Lawrence. He was a youth baseball coach from 1978 to 1982.

He married Judy M. New on April 26, 1969.

Survivors include two daughters, Diane Gordon, Kennard, Neb., and Denise Martinez, Corpus Christi, Texas; a son, David, Leavenworth; six brothers, Richard and Theodore, both of Leavenworth, John, Rich Hill, Mo., Edward, Mackisville, Joseph, Port Orchard, Wash., and Michael, Easton; seven sisters, Dorothy Coates, Rose Garrett, Geraldine LaFontaine and Nadine Price, all of Leavenworth, Mary Finneran, Easton, Helen Vandruff, Tonganoxie, and Deborah Roediger, Atchison; and six grandchildren.

Family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
